What is Hypnosis for childbirth?
Hypnosis for childbirth teaches you self hypnosis, visualization and relaxation techniques to help prepare you for a natural and relaxed birth experience.
How can Hypnosis help?
The mind can be trained to experience discomfort as only pressure and that is what is achieved in hypnosis for childbirth. With labour, the more relaxed the mother is, the more comfortable the birth she will have.
What will I learn?
Physical relaxation using guided visualization followed by positive hypnotic suggestions. These are practiced daily in preparation for birth. The subconscious mind is trained to believe that birth will be comfortable, easy and more enjoyable.
Research has shown that for women using hypnosis for childbirth, there is a reduction in the length of labour, less reported pain, reduction in medical intervention and use of forceps or ventouse. Reduced caesarean rate and a reduced need for pharmacological anaesthesia. In addition, women who did need chemical anaesthetics found that they were administered more easily and smaller amounts were needed to have the same clinical effect.
Too good to be true?
Can women give birth without experiencing pain? They can. There are many variables in labour and birth that can affect the outcome. Couples need to have a positive but realistic view of hypnosis for childbirth.
